Northwest Hills was once the site of a limestone quarry, helping explain why the local library bears the name "Old Quarry."

In the 1960s, developers realized the area's potential. They converted roughly 2,000 acres of land into a suburb ideal for those hoping to settle in a peaceful, green area within easy commuting distance of Austin's city center, which is just seven miles away.

Today Northwest Hills residents are also just five miles from high-end retails shops at the Domain and less than five miles from the Austin Arboretum shopping center. However, modern developments haven't compromised the area's natural attractions. Just on the suburb's doorstep is the beautiful Bull Creek greenbelt, offering miles of hiking and walking trails, forest, swimming holes, and waterfalls.
