Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA) High School

LASA High School offers a four-year comprehensive, advanced academic program. In 2014, Newsweek ranked LASA as the top high school in Texas, as well as the eighth best school in the nation.

In 2015, the school was also ranked as the best high school in Texas by school data site, Niche.

In 2015 the school had a 100% passing rate across all subjects, and was acknowledged by the Texas Education Agency for academic achievement in reading, math, social studies, and science.

Blackshear Elementary Fine Arts Academy

Blackshear is the first elementary school in Austin to offer an expanded fine arts program. The arts programs include dance, music, visual arts and theatre production.

Shortly after its transformation into an arts academy, Blackshear was named a 2015 National Blue Ribbon School by the U.S. Department of Education. This accolade is based on overall academic achievement or progress in closing achievement gaps between students.

Blackshear was one of 28 schools to be recognized in Texas. The school has an 94% passing rate across all subjects, and has been acknowledged by the Texas Education Agency for achievements in reading and science.

Zavala Elementary School

Zavala Elementary offers art, music, physical education and science to students, as well as a preschool program for children with disabilities. Zavala Elementary has been acknowledged by the Texas Education Agency for its achievements in reading and science, as well as for closing the performance gaps between students. Zavala had a passing rate of 79% across all subjects in 2015.

Kealing Middle School

Kealing Middle School has a reputation for excellence in academics, offering a challenging and advanced core curriculum.

In 2015, the school achieved a passing rate of 89% across all subjects, and was recognized by the Texas Education Agency for achievement in reading, math, science and social studies. Sports offered at Kealing Middle School include volleyball, soccer, basketball, football, track, and tennis.

Gonzalo Garza Independence High School

Gonzalo Garza Independence High School offers a non-traditional, self-paced learning approach. The U.S. Department of Education recognizes Garza High as one of 40 schools in the country with the best practices for improving outcomes for “at risk” students. In 2015 the school achieved a passing rate of 81% across all subjects. The school has a strong chess team – currently ranked among the top ten teams in Texas.
