The Lake Travis Independent School Distinct (LTISD) oversees nine schools in the communities of southwestern Travis County. Its focus is on providing a "comprehensive curriculum emphasizing scholastic emphasis."
The LTISD member schools include the Bee Cave, Lake Pointe, Lake Travis, Lakeway, Serene Hills, and West Cypress Hills elementary Schools; Hudson Bend and Lake Travis Middle Schools, and Lake Travis High School.
Lake Travis Independent School District grabs top honors
According to the latest ratings by independent and state ratings agencies, the LTISD has more than met its mandate.
This is confirmed by Greatschools.org, a non-profit organization that rates schools and publishes parent, teacher, and student reviews. It has given a rating of 9 or 10 out of 10 to eight of the nine schools in the district (and the ninth school achieved a score of 8 out of 10). The ratings are based on three key measurable areas of academic quality – student achievement, student growth, and college readiness.
The district has also achieved an exemplary rating from the Texas Education Agency, and is currently ranked 13th out of the 933 school districts in the state of Texas.
Top Lake Travis schools
All nine of the LTISD schools in the Lake Travis area provide education of an exceptional standard, along with plenty of extra-curricular resources and activities for students. Here we consider the Lake Travis elementary, middle, and high schools in more detail.
Lakeway Elementary School has been awarded "Exemplary" status by the Texas Education Agency, a Greatschools.org score of 10 out of 10, and a SchoolDigger rating of five out of five stars. In 2015, it ranked better than 98.3% of elementary schools in Texas.
With roughly 630 students and a staff of over 40 full-time teachers, Lakeway Elementary boasts an outstanding teacher to student ratio of 16 to 1. The school offers a wide range of support programs, as well as special area classes in art, music, physical education, and computing. Its motto is "Leading the Way toward Excellence."
Another highly respected institution is Lake Travis Middle School, which is committed to teaching children to be accountable, respectful, mannerly, organized, and responsible. It features a Greatschools.org perfect score of 10 out of 10, and has been commended for its results in reading, social studies, and writing by the Texas Education Agency.
Established in 1988, Lake Travis High School is renowned for its comprehensive academic program, excellent sporting achievements, and Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Students are prepared for the job market through a variety of elective institute-based programs.
The school offers studies in Advanced Science and Medicine, Finance and Marketing, Business, Technology and Communication, Mathematics, Engineering, Architecture, and more. It also offers students a wide range of sporting activities. The school won the UIL-4A Lone Star Cup, the state’s highest award for academic and athletic achievements, in the 2011/2012 academic year.
According to the US News and World Report, Lake Travis High School has a 97 percent graduation rate and a 17 to 1 student to teacher ratio, and is among the top 30 percent of schools in the state of Texas.
